Die Klompching Gallery is pleased to announce, that Ingrid Weyland is the winner of the 2021 Rhonda Wilson Award, for her series Topographies of Fragility. Their current exhibition 'FRESH 2021' features work by five photographers - amongst them: Ingrid Weyland - selected from the 20 FRESH Finalists. Each exhibiting artist is represented with a selection of photographs, from the single body of work that was submitted to the open call.

Ingrid Weyland: 'I have traveled from southern Argentina to the ice of Greenland. I have always been attracted to solitary and silent sceneries, bonding to a point where these spaces become a source of containment and protection, a private sanctuary. It is perhaps because of this feeling that, back home, I devised a strategy to try to return the gesture to nature. As a tribute, and possible farewell, to my emotional refuge, which has experienced serious environmental degradation, and through the materiality of the printed image, I intend to highlight the violent damage suffered by them, by manipulating and distorting my own personal landscapes. In these landscapes that at first glance would seem pristine and immaculate, we then notice their decline, their deterioration; which becomes a wake-up call, a way of questioning our relationship with the natural world. This has evidently become an urgent matter. My intention is to keep working towards trying to effect change. It is said that a wrinkled piece of paper, can never regain its original shape, the trace persists. In the same way, nature which is disrespectfully invaded, is forever broken, and many times unrecoverable.'

Ingrid Weyland is born in Buenos Aires. Being part of a family of sculpters and architects, she grew up among color pencils, art papers, blueprints, inks, and clay. She could spend hours around these materials, and from them arises her passion for form, image and design, finally studying Graphic Design in the University of Buenos Aires, and working in her own study for several years. Some years later she decides to dedicate herself to studying Photography. Her work has been exhibited in cultural institutions and galleries in Argentina, London, Canadá, and Hong Kong: Arte Espacio (2016), Buenos Aires Photo International Fair (2019-2020), Photo London (2020), Exposure Photo Festival (2021), 1854 BJP Decade of Change Exhibition at The Climate Museum (2021), Ashurst Emerging Artist Prize (2021), among others, and has several upcoming exhibitions in Europe and the United States.

The FRESH 2021 Annual Photography Exhibition by KLOMPCHING GALLERY - now in its 10th year - is curated from an international open call for submissions of photographic artworks (Exhibition Dates: September 15 – October 30, 2021). The 20 Finalists for FRESH 2021 are Jon Scott Anderson, Debra Bilow, Beth Dow, Carol Erb, Iwona Germanek, Rebecca Hackemann, Thomas Kellner, Karen Navarro, Toni Pepe, Paul Rider, Holly Roberts, Kristin Schnell, Leslie Sheryll, John Slepian, Aline Smithson, Liz Steketee, Brandy Trigueros, Ingrid Weyland, Jonas Yip, and Michael Young.   The Rhonda Wilson Award has been created to recognize and celebrate the legacy of Rhonda Wilson MBE. The award celebrates new talent in photography, providing the recipient with support, exposure and opportunity to further their career as a fine art photographer.
