How to Gybow, with photographer and director Jeff Ludes

Transportation photographer JEFF LUDES recently shot a video with Gybow inventor Arne Weiss to give you an insight into working with the innovative system. "This demonstration is intended to demystify the system somewhat and show the entire process as well as some of its special capabilities." Jeff Ludes, Photographer.

In short: The Gybow hangs in a darkened studio and projects the light and reflections of a scene onto the vehicle. This is similar to popular LED volume studios, but the Gybow completely envelops the car in a perfect, seamless bubble of light – something no other system can do.

JEFF LUDES shoots the new Chevy Spark in Mexico City with Gybow

Jeff Ludes recently completed another project with the Gybow team: This time, he photographed the all-new Chevrolet Spark for Chevrolet in the vibrant metropolis of Mexico City!

The shoot began with two days of on-location production, capturing backplates and HDRI domes. Then, they headed to the studio, where the top-secret new Chevy Spark was waiting for them.

Over the next few days, Jeff photographed the vehicle, which Gybow then captured in perfect light and with reflections from the actual filming locations. The actors were also staged in the studio, allowing for complete interaction around, on, and in the vehicle.

Compact, modern, striking, and packed with technology, this new Spark could very well be the best city car of 2025.

JEFF LUDES photographs the new TOYOTA RAV4 with Gybow for Saatchi & Saatchi

Jeff Ludes recently completed a project for Toyota and their hugely successful RAV4. To keep the new vehicle safe from prying eyes during production, the team turned not to CGI, but to the Gybow lighting system.

As usual, the project began with location scouting, followed by shooting images all over the San Francisco Bay Area. With backplates and HDRIs in hand, Jeff's team returned to a secure studio in Los Angeles, where the Gybow and RAV4 awaited them.

The second half of the shoot took place entirely indoors, with the Gybow slowly rotating over the vehicle, playing back all the light and reflections captured at each location.

The process is akin to shooting on an LED volume stage but is perfectly suited for the needs of high-resolution vehicle photography. The end result is vehicles that accurately reflect their environment, without ever leaving the secure studio.
