Here’s a look at the two projects from JEFF LUDES that bookended a very strange year. He shot the first one in the early days of 2020, before masks and lockdowns, for CHEVROLET and the carmaker’s full-size SUV duo, the Tahoe and Suburban. Jeff’s own city of Los Angeles was the location of choice, with its flavor of winter weather providing plenty of sunshine.
From then on, things got a little bumpy, with plenty of ups and downs. Soon enough, Jeff Ludes and his team worked out the best practices for producing a shoot safely and intelligently, and have been shooting pretty much non-stop ever since.
Jeff’s last project of 2020 is a personal one – a trip across the snowy landscapes of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, in a vintage Porsche 911 Turbo. The car is a little hard to come by, so GoSee member MAINWORKS provided CGI renderings and fully polished the images. Jeff Ludes: “A warm welcome to 2021!”

The new PORSCHE 911 continues to raise the bar for the future when it comes to exclusive sportiness. JEFF LUDES photographed the car at California’s Salton Sea and in the desert.
“I recently spent a day in the California desert with Porsche’s latest generation of one of the all-time greats, the 911. As on all my personal projects, the goal was to explore the locations, and look for the magic as it happened. The small crew started at sunrise with a drone and running shots, winding amongst sand dunes. In the mid-day light, we headed up rocky mountain roads, and then back down again to catch the sunset and purple dusk over the Salton Sea. Shooting entirely hand-held meant I came away with hundreds of options, and after careful selection and some color correction, here are the results.'”
After a false start shooting skateboarding, Jeff sought professional help and enrolled at Art Center College of Design. He graduated in 2002. Following advice to “shoot what you love”, he was surprised to find a provocative challenge in automotive photography – to make a product beautiful, in an image that creates an emotional connection.

JEFF LUDES photographed the new HYUNDAI IONIQ in Los Angeles for the agency Innocean with Creative Director Pat Zimmerman and Art Buyer Rob Beckon. It was produced by Anne Tower, and post was taken care of by Studio KB. “The 8-day shoot moved fast with plenty of action and lifestyle shots, plus a day of video. I found that a well-organized shoot makes for a good mood of everyone on set, as you can see in the BTS video.”
