“The First of a New Era” - Transportation specialist DAVID MAURER presents the all-electric SUV BMW IX3

The moment has finally arrived: Transportation photographer David Maurer puts the brand-new BMW iX3 in the spotlight. The photos were taken in Spain when the iX3 was still a top-secret prototype, hidden from the public eye.

"Factory security personnel were present throughout the entire shoot – a clear indication of the importance of this market launch for BMW," David Maurer tells us.

The BMW iX3, a fully electric SUV the size of an X3, is one of BMW's most important new electric vehicles – it represents the completely new generation built on the so-called "New Class" platform. With this, BMW is launching its next EV era full steam ahead into the future.

The first generation was still based on the standard X3 with its combustion engine platform. The new generation, however, was developed from the ground up as an electric vehicle. BMW unveiled the new iX3 in 2025 – making it officially the first production model built on the new "New Class" EV platform.

Sheer driving pleasure: A highlight is the "Heart of Joy"—BMW's name for the new central computer for driving dynamics. According to BMW, it coordinates steering, recuperation, and stability extremely quickly—and you'll notice this in the driving experience alone. "Recuperation"—or regenerative braking—in an electric car means that valuable energy is recovered during braking or coasting.

The new iX3 is built in a brand-new BMW plant in Debrecen, Hungary's second-largest city. BMW emphasizes more sustainable production and local battery assembly. Debrecen is located about 200 km east of Budapest and is currently developing rapidly into a major European e-mobility hub. Battery manufacturers and suppliers are also investing heavily there.

"The First of a New Era."—The main international campaign for the new BMW iX3 was created by Jung von Matt Hamburg. More BMW than ever.
