During Berlin Art Week, Matthias David is exhibiting photos by his photographer friend SARAH ZAK starting on 14 September ’23 at his bar Hier wo du strahlst (Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße 20, 10177 Berlin). So if you can’t find the time for galleries, the trade show, events… during the day – then how about coming to the bar for a bit of art in the evening?

Sarah Zak’s preferred motifs are of young women. In the intimate moments of her series ‘Sarah likes pretty girls’, the beauty of their individuality is revealed. Her portraits tell stories, unveil emotions and create a special connection between the photographer and her models.

Photographer Matthias David personally calls the world his home. He films and photographs fashion, people and landscapes in Australia, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Tokyo, Paris, Thessaloniki, Berlin and Antartica for brands, the advertising industry and his new upcoming book projects ‘Girls Around the World’. Here on GoSee, Matthias David has an appetizer with helicopter shots of Hollywood and the cold ice of Antartica for you, … and he will soon present his new work.

Matthias David was born in 1978 in Bremen, he studied Photography at Lette Verein Berlin, and has worked since 2006 as a photographer for celebrities, lifestyle and fashion brands as well as for advertising agencies and magazines. In 2017, he published his first photo book ‘Castingallee’, which shows his work and his lifestyle during the years 2005 – 2009. Since 2022, he bas been the owner of the bar Hier wo Du strahlst in Berlin.

We are delighted to welcome MATTHIAS DAVID here at GoSee. The portrait and celebrity specialist presents you his DEKA campaign for the agency TLGG, SEAT with Mark Foster to kick things off – plus, we also have a look at his book ‘Castingallee’ for you with plenty of vintage portraits in store.

Matthias David, born 1978 in Bremen, has been living in Berlin since his training at Lette Verein. He started photographing the celebrities and semi-celebrities of the city back in the aughts along with international stars – for brands such as LEVI’S and SEAT but also for pop culture and lifestyle magazines.

‘Castingallee’ is the name of his first glossy book, featuring a collection of portraits of actors including Robert Stadlober, Daniel Brühl and Laura Osswald as well as portraits from the years 2004 to 2009. It was published by Nadine Barth at Herzstück Publishing. His photos show party scenes, spontaneous portraits, magazine covers, fashion, misery, campaign posters… just your everyday madness. The book is a look at the glossy surface of the capital that simply doesn’t exist anymore in this way.
