The 2023 Pirelli calendar is dedicated to women who shine a light in the darkness on their search for inspiration. It brings together 28 shots of 14 models portrayed in the dreamy signature style typical of Emma Summerton’s work. The choice of models was by no means random. Each has a close affinity with the muse they represented on the sets which were created in London and New York for the shoots. “In my shots, the borderline between the role that the models play and what they really are is not clearly defined, and everything blends together to create a magical realism,” the photographer explains on the Pirelli homepage. With the calendar, she would like to encourage viewers to open their minds and dream along with her.

The Australian photographer, who lives in London and New York, has long approached photography not merely as the act of taking a picture of a model, but as a dimensional exchange in which the women’s identity, passions and interests inform the image.
