Studio Juma commissioned interior specialist Robert RIEGER c/o EMEIS DEUBEL to photograph the legendary designs by architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni (1913 – 2016) for the Italian furniture brand AZUCENA in Milan.
Robert: “A Matter of Scale. Together with Studio Juma, we interpreted the AZUCENA collection through a new reportage that contemplates the everlasting playfulness of Luigi Caccia Dominioni’s projects, centered around the balance of shapes and proportions.”
Named after Azucena, the gipsy in the Italian opera Il Trovatore, this brand was founded in the year 1947 by a group of young Milanese architects. Their goal was to design and manufacture furniture and fixtures for their houses. At the same time, they recognized the opportunity to create one-off pieces which ultimately led to a whole host of iconic designs. In 2018, B&B Italia acquired this brand steeped in history with the aim of preserving it as part of the rich Italian heritage. They reinterpreted a series of modern classics which were designed by architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni in the late 1940s. The collection consists of chairs, sofas, tables and lamps that embody ‘Design Made in Italy’ and are today considered the epitome of style and quality.
