GOSEE FEATURES CONTEMPORARY ART & RENOWNED ARTISTS

ART GoSee Tip : MONICA MENEZ – DRESSED TO COMPUTE – exhibition in the gallery UNO ART SPACE from 17 March through 16 June, 2023

16.03.2023 • The artist Monica Menez is known for her unique productions in photography and film. In 2007, she opened the gallery UNO ART SPACE featuring her works, and the gallery is now celebrating with Monica Menez the beginning of her anniversary year : ‘Sweet Sixteen’.

For the exhibition ‘Dressed to Compute’ – Monica Menez continues to develop her previous approach, experimenting with complex computational methods, with pixels and programs, but also with AI and AR. The result, however, once again bears witness to her authorship and remains as multilayered, surreal and a sensual experience as ever before.

The artist Monica Menez has already received several awards for her work. In her series and films, she presents fashion and people, tongue slightly in cheek, often in equivocal and extraordinary stories.

Monica Menez attended the vernissage and drank a toast to the wonderful occasion with guests on 17 March. The exhibition is now on display through 16 June, 2023. Appointments are, of course, available upon request.

ART GoSee loves: ‘What Once Was - An imaginary portrait of friendship and masculinity’ - a touching photo essay by David van Dartel as an illustrated book and exhibition at Elliott Gallery, NL

09.03.2023 • The Elliott Gallery in Amsterdam, guaranteed the first address when it comes to thrilling and outstanding fine art photography, presents ‘What Once Was’, the latest project by David van Dartel. A lively portrait of young adults in multiple European countries, carefully stylized, but still very close to Van Dartels sense of friendship. The series prompts questions about the classical discourse of masculinity.

This exhibition is accompanied by the launch of van Dartel’s second book, following his successful debut in 2020 with ‘This Time Tomorrow’.

I want to show a world in which we acknowledge that everything and everyone is interconnected. I believe we should emphasize the connection to nature more. One should have the freedom to give one’s own meaning to these connections, however, stereotypes limit this freedom. With ‘What Once Was’, I want to show that masculinity is ultimately all about humanity, and that humanity is always associated with a vulnerability and dependency to nature,” says Van Dartel.

“On an unremarkable evening, it must have been December 2021, nothing really...

ART ‘Metaphysics of Core Matter’ by Silja Yvette at Galerie Arimont as part of the European Month of Photography Berlin (EMOP)

07.03.2023 • On display as part of the EMOP Berlin 2023 is the new series ‘Metaphysics of Core Matter’ by Silja Yvette at Berlin’s Galerie Arimont in Auguststr. 83, 10117 Berlin-Mitte. The vernissage will take place at 5pm on 2 March, 2023 (duration of the exhibition: 3 – 31 March, 2023).

“‘Metaphysics of Core Matter’ is a fundamental examination of contemporary materials at the intersection of art, research and industry. Artist Silja Yvette explores packaging bodies and their problematic dimensions and spread for the environment. In a social context, packaging bodies must be understood as archetypes of consumption – mass-produced articles made of foam, Styrofoam, aluminum, which are already worthless at the moment of their intended use. These materials, which are quickly disposed of in daily life, are placed upon a symbolic pedestal by Silja Yvette. A new value is ascribed to them with a reference to what they actually stand for: a reflection of the contemporary reality of accelerated life. A construction kit of modernity,” says Katharina Arimont.

“In contrast to the image motifs, the series...
