'European Kinship – Eastern European Perspective' focuses on Eastern European Photography – an exhibition at the Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center

How can Eastern European identity be defined? What makes it unique and connects the people living here, sharing a common history and geography? What are the global solutions to local issues, and how do they come together in a broader European context? What trends are pushing for deeper European integration and more international cooperation? And how do these affect artistic and photographic practices that engage with the world around us, its events, effects, and related emotions and challenges? The exhibition European Kinship – Eastern European Perspective explores European identity through the works of Polish and Hungarian photographers, offering a regional take on contemporary experiences.

The exhibition presents a specific regional perspective on contemporary experiences through the works of Polish and Hungarian photographers, reflecting European identity in its diverse facets. In six chapters, it addresses questions of European unity and cultural perspectives from the Eastern side of Europe. The exhibition was curated by Emese Mucsi (HU, Capa Center) and Wiktoria Michałkiewicz (PL, REZO Agency), a Polish curator and art expert. She is known for her work in contemporary photography, particularly promoting Eastern European artists. Michałkiewicz curates exhibitions that highlight cultural and social issues in the region and present Eastern European perspectives internationally.

The Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center (RCC) in Budapest is one of Hungary's most prominent centers for contemporary photography. It is named after the famous Hungarian war photographer Robert Capa, who became internationally known for his iconic images from the world wars. A famous quote by him: "If your pictures are not good enough, you were not close enough." Founded in 2013, the center has become an important venue for exhibiting, promoting, and archiving photography.
