The motif was created in 2018, and you can now purchase it as a limited, signed edition and as a fine art print (Limited Edition of 7 Photographs) in 140cm x 11cm at SaatchiArt.com.
On the site you will also find a nice description of his working method : 'Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper, Rod Stewart, James Blunt, Sting or David Duchovny. They all come to Stefan Sappert for a photo. His pictures have something mystical, they appear powerful and everlasting. As if they came from a world where time has no meaning.
For this unique effect, the 37-year-old uses a special technique: he photographs with silver on black glass. Each portrait is one of a kind, no negatives, no prints. To capture his motifs, Stefan uses a large, wooden bellows camera from 1860 : "I was bored of digital photography and wanted to slow down the work", Stefan says. "This process gives me time to focus on the persons and let them be part of the whole experience."
Stefan creates his pictures using the collodion wet plate process, invented in 1851. For this purpose, he applies a layer of collodion to the black glass. The sweet-smelling adhesive serves as a primer for a silver nitrate solution that makes the plate photosensitive. In his job Stefan is half an artist, half a travelling alchemist. He mixes the chemicals for his glass plates on his own, often directly at the location of the photo shoot : "Each plate has to be prepared right before the shoot and needs to be developed immediately afterwards," Stefan explains. "That’s why I always bring a mobile photo lab in a converted suitcase.'
Photographing with silver and glass is still something very special for Stefan:: "The photos appear like paintings. They not only show people, but also seem to cast a glance into their souls."

About ANDREA HEBERGER GMBH
Can you imagine the smell of a bakery? The fragrance of fresh warm bread and buns is fantastic! I was lucky enough to grow up in my parents' bakery. This was in Nürnberg, where I was born in 1960. My first profession was as an architecture draftswoman and for a few years I worked in interior design. As I am very close to nature, I looked for something else and I founded one of the first organic sheepfarms with cheese dairy in Frankonia. After this wonderful experience I finally landed by chance in the advertising industry.
My love for photography and my talent for organizing productions led me to this exciting profession. In 1990 I started my own agency for photographers and since that I handled thousands of photo productions worldwide, bringing many artists and clients together for fruitful, long-term collaborations. I am proud to have been a successful classic agent for 33 years and am grateful for so many experiences and challenges.
In 2017 it was time to shift down a gear and I have changed the concept of my agency. Since then, my focus is on promotional/marketing work for artists in the fields of Photography and Motion in order to strengthen their presence on the B2B market. Now.. I run this new concept in the 8th year and I can say that it was the best decision to change. It is wonderful to work with international creative people like photographers. I am always amazed by their exciting biographies and how the Artists see the world through their lenses.
I am very grateful that I have been able to accompany many creative people on their way. I love to share my wealth of experience and with them and I love to be the contact person for all topics around the photo business. I live with my dog Fanni in a small fine house with a magic garden in the Taunus Mountains, near Frankfurt/Main. From here I promote for my photographers on the international stage of the advertising industry. I am more than happy to be able to combine the near to the nature with my amazing work.
