Fashion Faux Parr presents Martin Parr’s collection of fashion photography. For the first time in one book, published by Phaidon, it contains more than 250 color images, many previously unpublished, that explore the entire breadth and depth of Parr’s three decades in the fashion world – from candid photographs snapped behind the scenes at major fashion events and portraits of industry icons, to editorial collaborations with major magazines and houses, including Vogue, Gucci, and Balenciaga.
Two essays by influential figures in the fashion industry, Scottish designer Patrick Grant and Tabitha Simmons, the Fashion Editor of US Vogue, provide commentary on Parr’s unique perspective of the fashion world interwoven into a broader context. It is the first book dedicated to Martin Parr’s highly original take on fashion, including both commissioned and personal photographs.

Martin Parr is a British documentary photographer and filmmaker known for his often satirical photos of everyday British life. Born in 1952 in Epsom, Surrey, he developed an interest in photography during his teen years. This later led him to take a course of study at the Manchester Polytechnic (today Manchester Metropolitan University). His work is marked by a colorful aesthetic and a keen and humorous eye for the absurdities of modern society. Alongside his own photographic work, Parr also plays a prominent role as curator and editor, publishing regularly on photographic topics and organizing exhibitions.
The Martin Parr Foundation, founded in 2017 and based in Bristol, England is a further testament to Parr’s passion for photography. The aim of the foundation is to support aspiring, established, and forgotten photographers who have created or will continue to create works focused on the UK and Ireland.
