Derrick Ofosu Boateng is a fine art photographer who shows the beauty of the African continent and uses the power of colors to make his photos come alive. His first book ‘Hueism’ offers an impressive look at Boateng’s work, allowing readers to immerse themselves in the poetry of his photographs – and partake in this equally inspiring and surprising visual celebration.
Carefully composed, his artwork is full of details waiting to be discovered – colorful compositions, clear forms, all referencing the rich culture of Africa. Boateng, who was born and raised in Ghana, was strongly influenced by West African culture and began sharing his work on social media in 2017.
He draws inpsiration from traditional, color-coded items of clothing: for instance, white to go to church, black and red for funerals, or bright colors to go to market – for which he has coined the term ‘Hue-ism’. His work, brimming with color and contrasts, begins mostly with a poem or proverb which he then transforms into images.
Limited to 1000 copies, ‘Hueism’ offers an intimate look into the depths of Boateng’s imaginative world and colorful lens. It is available exclusively at www.homecoming.gallery, in select museums and book stores, and it comes in four cover designs.
