PhotoSaintGermain presents the solo exhibition ‘Insolations’ by young French photographer Antoine Henault from 3 to 19 November 2022 at the Eugène Delacroix Museum Paris

Our personal highlight of the Paris festival PhotoSaintGermain takes place from 3 to 19 November, 2022, at the Eugène-Delacroix National Museum : The series ‘Insolations’ by young photographer Antoine Henault in an exhibition in the former bedroom of painter Eugène Delacroix.

‘Insolations’, the first solo exhibition by Antoine Henault – who received the Roversi Picto Prize 2022 this year – offers a collection of photos, the arrangement of which in the museum space recomposes the rhythm of the seasons : “In his series entitled ‘Insolations’, Antoine Henault presents a collection of images composed with the light of a sun that seems eternal. His photographs, captured in the diversity of the landscapes and beings he encounters, are the narrative of a re-harmonized world. The color intervenes here like synesthetic memory by invoking radiant perceptions: It is about feeling ‘the taste, the texture and the smells’ of colors. Fruits, flowers and relaxed bodies are cut by the shadows of a hot summer afternoon or illuminated by a soft winter sun. The near and the far are treated with wonder and benevolence, as the testimony of a state of softness.”

Antoine Henault is a French photographer born in 1992. As a teenager, he discovered the work of Saul Leiter, the color work of Jacques Henri Lartigue and the paintings of Edward Hopper. He is self-taught and has been shaped by a visual culture fed by the internet – an education through observation of freely circulated images. His visual universe has developed in response to the nature where he grew up and remains his main source of inspiration. Graphic and sensory, his work celebrates the intimate connection between beings and their environment, a re-enchantment through contemplation.

The exhibition is on display as part of the PhotoSaintGermain festival from 3 to 19 November, and afterwards until the end of the year (Antoine Henault ‘Insolations’, Delacroix Museum Paris, 6 rue de Furstemberg 75006).

The Eugène-Delacroix National Museum is located in the very apartment and studio where Eugène Delacroix lived and worked from 1857 until his death. From the painter’s apartment, one can visit the dining room, the salon and the bedroom, where his works are presented. The visit continues in Eugène Delacroix’s studio, overlooking a charming little garden. The artist built his studio himself, where he worked surrounded by thousands of sketches and drawings, as well as objects brought back from his journey to Morocco. The collections of the Musée national Eugène-Delacroix now bring together paintings, drawings, prints, as well as letters by Delacroix and his contemporaries, thus addressing the work of the painter and his creative process across various topics.
