For MADAME FIGARO, Esther HAASE met up once again with two female stars of French cinema. The actresses and now directors, Noémi Merlant & Hafsia Herzi, were photographed by Esther for the cover story, which just appeared as a Cannes special in early May. The 77th annual Cannes Film Festival took place from 14 to 25 May 2024.
Both in their mid-thirties, they swapped sides of the camera to get a new glimpse of cinema. “ We love to film others, watch them… which is why we became directors,” the two tell the magazine in an interview.
The French horror comedy entitled ‘The Balconettes’ is directed by, co-written by, and starring Noémie Merlant and was shown as part of the Midnight Screenings at the Cannes Film Festival. Hafsia Herzi plays in ‘La Prisonnière de Bordeaux’ by Patricia Mazuy, which was part of the 2024 Quinzaine des Cinéastes.
The elegant styling was taken care of by Veronique Tristram with clothing from Louis Vuitton, jeans from Dries Van Noten, a Perfecto-style leather jacket from Rokh, Louboutin pumps, and jewelry from Cartier.
