The editorial shown here was published exactly one week before the 2026 Met Gala. It celebrates the Metropolitan Museum of Art's official host committee exhibition.
It was photographed by Annie Leibovitz.
The overarching theme of the 2026 exhibition and gala was "Costume Art." Fashion photographer Annie Leibovitz therefore staged the invited artists, designers, and committee members like living, sculptural works of art. Star stylist Law Roach was responsible for the epic high-fashion looks.
In addition to the incomparable Gwendoline Christie, other high-profile co-chairs and committee members of the evening were featured in the photo shoot: World-renowned ballet dancer Misty Copeland posed in a layered, dynamic set by the up-and-coming brand FFORME.
Actresses Wunmi Mosaku and Chase Sui Wonders were photographed in avant-garde silhouettes (including some by Valentino).
The well-known models and activists Alex Consani and Lauren Wasser, along with actress Tschabalala Self, completed the cast.
All the women featured are official members of the 2026 Met Gala Host Committee. The portfolio traditionally serves to showcase the creative minds and supporters behind the scenes of the prestigious museum exhibition.
This year's exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum explores the relationship between fashion and the diversity of the human body. Each of these women represents a unique physical expression and identity, whether it be golden prosthetics, height, elegance, discipline—or their artistic work itself.
The shoot took place in a studio specially designed for this Vogue shoot by production company AL Studio and set designer Montana Pugh, featuring minimalist, sculptural backdrops and props.
The Met Gala (officially the Costume Institute Benefit) is considered one of the most important global events in the fashion world. It traditionally takes place on the first Monday in May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This exclusive event is a fundraising gala. The proceeds finance the Costume Institute's annual fashion exhibition.
Each year has a specific theme. The invited international stars and designers create bespoke, often avant-garde works of art instead of traditional evening wear. The gala is hosted by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, along with rotating co-chairs.
Annie Leibovitz is represented by the agency LGA MGMT, Paris - London - NYC.
