The city of Hyères in the south of France served once again as the stage for the popular Festival of Fashion, Photography and Accessories. From Thursday, 13 through Sunday, 16 October, 2022, plenty of fashionistas found their way again this year to Villa Noailles. “Over the course of four days, guests had the pleasure of indulging in fashion, accessories and photography from morning to night, while experiencing it all one more time and learning so much,” Rolf Scheider tells us, who took a closer look at the finalists and winners for GoSee.
The awards ceremony took place starting at 2:30pm at Villa Noailles, and this year, the focus was on the ecological aspect of the submitted works. Front and center for these young up-and-coming designers : craftsmanship and sustainable materials. The Grand Prix of the Jury Première Vision, chaired by designer Glenn Martens (Y/Project, Creative Director DIESEL, Jean Paul Gaultier), went to Finnish designer Jenny Hytönen – who also took home the Public Prize of the city of Hyères. She thrilled jurors and the audience alike with a collection blending armor and glamour – adorning leather with spikes, and knitwear with glass beads.
Jenny Hytönen: “It is beyond. I would like to thank the whole team from Villa Noailles and all the beautiful inspiring people I had the chance to meet during this time. There was definitely some magic in the air.”
The festival also lauded Valentin Lesser in the category Fashion, who received the le19M Métiers d’art Prize, awarded by Chanel since 2019, as well as the Mercedes-Benz Prize for eco-friendly collections. The designer from Munich, who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf, delivered an impressive collection with a combination of streetwear and tailoring.
“For almost 30 years, our brand has been actively committed to fashion worldwide, and we are delighted to continue the support of international talent again this year as a long-standing partner of the Festival d’Hyères. We extend our most cordial congratulations to Valentin Lessner on winning our Mercedes-Benz Sustainability Prize in 2022 and, by doing so, recognize his passion for responsible fashion design.” says Julia Hofmann, Head of Branded Entertainment & Brand Partnerships at Mercedes-Benz AG.
In the category Photography, the jury chaired by Pierre Debusschere awarded the main prize to South Korean photographer Rala Choi, who also received the Public Prize. A Special Mention Prize went to French photographer Adeline Care, and Vietnamese photographer Chiron Duong was awarded the American Vintage Photography Prize.

The evenings were full of DJ sets and performances, and particularly popular was LA FAMILLE MARABOUTAGE, an afro-futuristic collective that performed Pan-African dance and bass music, making sure the juju on the dance floor was magical. “We are already looking forward to the 38th International Festival of Fashion, Photography and Fashion Accessories,” Rolf tells us.
Since 1986, the festival has promoted and supported young international fashion design, and since 1997, a competition has also been held for emerging photographers. Since 2016, a competition has recognized young designers in the area of fashion accessories. The festival is the oldest fashion competition aimed at up-and-coming professionals.
