The very short film ‘Focused’ by Director Romain LAURENT c/o B&A REPS Germany is about psychomotor agitation and suggests quite comically that there may indeed be more to restless leg syndrome than first imagined.
“I had the basic idea in mind for a bit and, after brainstorming with Co-Director Christina Jobe, we wrote this little scene. It seemed like it would be fun to create it, so we did,” Laurent tells Shots in an interview. “I guess ‘Focused’ is a really short film, or you could call it a comedy skit, or just a slice-of-life scene. Creating personal work helps me find what I really like to create in film; it allows me to explore different ideas without the pressure or the constraints that come from a commissioned job. It also keeps me somewhat sane. I always try to emulate the energy of my art school days, when I would just make things, which always led to interesting work, and short films are a great experiment, with a storyline or a concept, while also staying light production-wise.”
Romain Laurent was born and raised in the French Alps, where he nurtured a love of extreme skiing, studied product design at the Ensaama National School of Applied Arts, and learned photography at Gobelins in Paris. Today, he lives in Los Angeles, where he works as an artist, director, photographer, and everything in between. His often fantastical and quirky perspective is conveyed in all his films, videos, and high-concept images.
