The Spanish illustrator Paula Sanz Caballero c/o 2AGENTEN illustrated the cover of the new book Karl, about the legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. The book, written by Michael Wallner and published by Piper Verlag, is a moving and fascinating read that captures the dramatic and humorous key moments in the life of the fashion genius Karl Lagerfeld. Sanz Caballero’s illustration perfectly complements the narrative.
Additionally, here on GoSee, we showcase some of her fashion-inspired drawings. Paula Sanz Caballero, who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from the University of Valencia and a Master’s degree in Graphic Design from San Pablo CEU University in Valencia, Spain, began her career as a painter. She participated in national exhibitions, building a reputation as a talented artist. However, in the late 90s, she discovered a new passion for textiles and embroidery, which eventually replaced painting as her preferred medium for visual storytelling.
Her illustrations are figurative and detail-oriented. They depict prominent figures in elegant, sophisticated settings, often infused with irony, dark humor, and unsettling details. Sanz Caballero’s work has gained an international following and has been used by well-known clients such as fashion magazines, publishers, and other global companies in advertising and publication campaigns. Her notable clients include Neiman Marcus, Chie Mihara, and Harper Collins, and her work has appeared in Vogue, WWD, and The New Yorker.
Despite her widespread recognition as an illustrator, she has never lost sight of her career as an artist. On the contrary, she views the two fields as complementary and regularly exhibits her original works in art galleries across Europe and the United States.
