‘WORK - Behind closed doors’ presents a series of photographs exploring the question: What does the world of industrial work look like at the dawn of the 3rd millennium?
Photographer WOLFRAM SCHROLL asked himself : How is work done? What does a workplace look like? How much is machine, and how much is human? His credo : “Contemporary documentary photography, committed to the principle of portraying the aspects of industrial work as they are in reality,” shines through in every photo.
“I work as an industrial photographer in Germany and Europe, photographing subjects such as mechanical and electrical engineering, automation, steel and metal processing, chemical plants, aerospace, research, and medical technology. Next to my commercial work, I try to photograph for my own projects whenever I have the chance. I see my photography as the documentation of the technologies of our time, seeking subjects that resonate with my interpretation of industrial and technical aesthetics at the dawn of the 3rd millennium.” Wolfram Schroll.
The series grants you a glimpse into the production worlds of steel, aerospace, medicine, and chemistry. From high-tech to highly dangerous. Sometimes, it’s as if the individuals depicted disappear amid the massive machinery; at others, they stand as a glorious hero in a sea of flames. Photographs captured in places that are typically off-limits to the public.
About WOLFRAM SCHROLL
Lube oil rather than hair spray, blue collar rather than haute couture, preferably the smell of steel to the waft of perfume. No models, no cool locations, just raw reality. I love my work - industrial photography. And I love the noise and the heat, the weirdness of the production lines, sometimes all a bit menacing. The people, salt of the earth, uncomplicated. And the permanent challenge of getting photos out of the dark production halls and complex machinery, photos that deserve the word picture. On behalf of customers, taking photos of machines that look as expensive as they actually are. Here at this website, you can sample of my latest work from the worlds of steel, paper, machine construction and medical technology....and of the people who work there.
