The concept of the magazine ‘CURVES – Soulful Driving’ pairs unique shots of mountain passes and curves with a five-day road movie narrative to give readers the chance to experience the journey from the perspective of the two main characters before embarking on the trip themselves. For the magazine’s ‘Mid Engine’ special, photographer duo MIERSWA-KLUSKA went on a cinematic exploration of Southern Germany. To do so, they drove several different cars from the legendary Porsche brand across the beautiful region – from the Black Forest all the way up to the Alps. The motifs presented here are all still frames from the film.
CURVES on it’s Southern German issue which appeared this August: “There is actually no such thing as Southern Germany. At least not as one landscape. One unit. The former great powers of Europe clawed at Baden, Swabia and Bavaria so much that the folk didn’t have time to rally themselves – or even to figure out a shared identity. Anyone traveling across the country will be amazed at the glaring differences – the extreme diversity of language and culture, cuisine and religion, temperaments and values. The former tiny principalities that made southwestern Germany a confusing patchwork still exist. Inherited from the nobility and bartered away by the clergy, the land of Baden and Württemberg was divvied up into small parcels. There is no one clear story, just a lot of chapters. The situation is completely different in Bavaria’s southeast, which was historically under one rule – a mood that still lingers today. All this makes Southern Germany extremely appealing and exciting. If you travel with your eyes wide open, you will stumble across a densely packed past and encounter a kind of people that reflects this turbulent and eventful history.." Stefan Bogner from Curves magazine on the Southern Germany issue : “It is a special, almost festive feeling to travel with CURVES through Southern Germany. And there’s a good reason: The CURVES crew comes from here. Southern Germany is our home turf. We grew up with the tang of the forests and meadows, with the feeling of sweet lake water in our hair, with slightly uneven legs due to the undulating mountainscape – and our way of thinking, which has its roots in the many generations before us: We are Bavarians, we are Swabians, we are people of the Black Forest. And we have been looking forward to this CURVES edition for a very long time. There was just no way around it. Perhaps we should have brought our readers on this trip much earlier – it’s beautiful here. But it’s just not done. It would have been impolite, pushy and, we first had to get to know each other, anyway. Hence, it took long detours around half the world until we finally arrived in the Black Forest, in Swabia and Bavaria. Of course, that’s only half the story. Big thanks to KAMUT PLEASE for the music! Download available at lnk.to/KamutPlease_1234-CurvesEdit … Also thanks to all the people who came with us on this trip and made every minute special!”
