“We are delighted to welcome Bob SALA as a new artist on our photographer roster! The work of the German lifestyle and music photographer and writer is strongly influenced by elements of 1960s counter-culture and just bubbling with historic pop references. He studied American and English literature and Cultural Studies, and has been working for newspapers and magazines for over 20 years now.
Over the course of the past decade, his focus has shifted almost entirely to photography, earning him a worldwide following on social media, an ambassador position at Fujifilm and requests from all corners of the globe. His work has taken him from Sri Lanka to Brazil and from Australia to Hawaii. It has been published in newspapers and magazines, and he has participated in several exhibitions. He still regularly expresses his love for the written word by publishing his poetry and hosting a literary podcast entitled ‘Im Radio das Meer’.
In his work, he fuses classic fashion and portrait photography with fictional documentary elements. Charged with music, literature and a sense of nostalgia for iconic decades of the past, his work is a mash-up of old-school vibes with a modern twist – combining the warmth of the analog image with a melancholy sensitivity for his subjects.
In an artist portrait for Spanish newspaper ‘El Pais’, an editor once described him as ‘a photographer with the soul of a barman.’ A close, personal connection with his collaborators is his highest priority on set. He is quite at home in natural and challenging lighting situations, which gives his work utmost authenticity, which is palpable throughout his portfolio.
Among his clients are Swatch, Marshall Headphones, Seat, Fujifilm, Otto, Rolling Stone Magazine and many more.”
