Cuba’s current thawing political climate is restoring its interest as a location of choice for film and photo productions. TAKE ME TO CUBA is one of the longest established photo production services in Havana – only Fidel C. has been there for longer.
Eleven years and three US presidents later the situation still isn’t ideal, but the increase in personal security, low traffic volume and Havana as a unique pearl in the Caribbean provide very pleasant production conditions.
These are the exact thoughts that went through the minds of the team at Düsseldorf-based agency Steinle und Melches whilst arranging a C&A production. They commissioned Christian Bengsch and his team to produce the current European C&A campaign starring Franziska von Almsick.
The shoot with two photo teams and one film crew (EMBASSY OF DREAMS, Munich) was undoubtedly the season highlight in Havana. Hamburg-based photographers Christina Blum and André Reinke flew out to the island and were supported by digital ops Benjamin Pichelmann and Maik Denecke.
Lucia Galli and Lucia Sciannamea from Argentina carried out the styling; Mart Reker and Barbara Lamelza perfected the hair and make-up. Over 60 kids were selected from a total casting of over 300; a European look is just as easy to cast as a diverse ethnic mix.
Christian Bengsch and team also produced a project for the JP BODEN catalogue company, England and PETRA, Germany. The catalogue specialists sent top Swedish photographer Catherine Wessel to Cuba and Heather Favell from England was selected for the PETRA shoot.
