Following a longer break, the next Friday Rewind event at Hamburg’s PLAY Studios is just around the corner. The pop-up exhibition will showcase works by Fergus Padel on 12 April 2024. Doors open at 7pm.
“Dear Friends of Friday Rewind, it is time for a very special reunion. We are delighted to welcome you to the next edition of our Friday Rewind event – this time, presenting the works of magnificent photographer Fergus Padel. ‘Her love lies in her portraits of people and nature and time.’ This love of people and things is the very force that creates order in her photographs and is thus a pivotal element of her work. Fergus’ images seem, at first glance, like they could be pictures out of a private photo album, yet the way in which they touch us is deeply profound – and they are, moreover, of such enormous intensity. “The most exciting part first – we’ve got even more space now!” The PLAY team led by Christoph Köster and Olaf Lumma have expanded their PLAY Studios for photo, film and events in Hamburg over the past few weeks.
“Awaiting you on more than 2000 sqm centrally located studio space at our studios 3 – 5 are a fresh coat of paint and ceilings that are twelve meters high. In other words: Plenty of space for your ideas, your creativity, for large-scale film and photo productions or even events. Whether full-haze wetdowns or other special requests, we do everything in our power to make sure your vision becomes reality. If you like it flooded with light and bright, then our two charming studios 1 and 2, located in the heart of Hamburg’s Schanze district, are the perfect choice for you.” says Christoph Köster.

Since it is difficult to travel at the moment due to well-known circumstances, photographers Christoph Köster, Olaf Lumma and the Hamburg-based PLAY STUDIOS came up with an idea. They looked for a solution to realize motifs which are normally photographed on location in Cape Town – without traveling, but with the same quality.
The very modern idea: Two small teams work together, photographing in parallel and remotely – one in Cape Town and one in Play Studio 3 (660sqm / 12m ceiling height) in Hamburg. Products, models etc. are photographed in the studio while the backgrounds or location shots are photographed in close cooperation at the same time in Cape Town.
Light, perspectives, etc. are discussed and agreed upon directly via live stream. A designated post-operator is part of the team in the Studio (Hamburg).
