SLANTED MAGAZINE presents its 40th issue on the topic of ‘Experimental Type’ plus a limited special edition with three type stencils to draw your own experimental letters

By making experiments, we gain experience and knowledge. Experiments broaden our horizon, let us enter into the undiscovered, and feed our lust for more. With Slanted Magazine #40 – ‘Experimental Type’, Slanted opens eight doors, each offering a glimpse into spaces that were explored by pushing conventions, limitations, and thoughts to the next level.

‘Tactile Realism’ shows works with tactile character, adding material properties to the typeface. The ‘Anti-Reader-Friendly’ typography becomes the “readymade” of the type world – and in doing so, a form of denying the possibility of defining art. In the area of ‘Deliberate Imperfection & Serendipity’, disassembly and assembly of typeface leads to new discoveries. While ‘Coincidence & Intention’ brings the randomness of the accidental into the design process and explores works based on mistakes and inaccuracies. The ‘Ever-Changing’ room showcases experiments of kinetic typography breaking away from its static state by adding movement and a three-dimensional stereoscopy, and the fourth dimension: time. ‘Cutting Edge’ directs attention to state-of-the-art technologies and their impact on design experiments. ‘Off the Screen’ explores physical space, within which writing becomes material, object, and sculpture. Last but not least, ‘Push to the Limits’ encourages to rethink finitude, breaking boundaries of conditioned symbolism, triggering new stimuli.

Plus, a limited special edition has been published with a set of three type stencils to draw your own experimental letters.

SLANTED PUBLISHERS presents you the book ‘INSTANT NUDES’ on GoSee.NEWS

“Over the years, the collection of intimate instant photos of the makers of PHOTODARIUM Private, a tear-off calendar with fascinating photos of international photographers from all over the world, has been growing. They are now opening the archive to present a curated selection in the beautifully produced book INSTANT NUDES.

Presented in the photo book INSTANT NUDES is the work of eleven photographers who only use instant images to capture erotic moments. Some of the photographs are revealing, some more discreet. What they all have in common is their reverence for a beautiful body. Because of its authenticity, the medium of the instant photo is the antithesis of digital photography. Instant photos enhance the erotic-voyeuristic moment through their intimacy, uniqueness and materiality, often not perfect and therefore all the more authentic, provocative and yet differentiated.

In their everyday working lives, models are projection screens for social ideas of beauty. They are staged by the photographers and a whole staff of stylists and hair & make-up artists. It is different with the photography of Nudes at home, in the intimacy of their private surroundings.

The calendar PHOTODARIUM Private has been published now since 2016. The tear-off calendar shows uncensored instant pictures with an artistic approach to nudity. Day after day, a new erotic, naked, or cheeky instant image is revealed. A modern and young look at eroticism beyond pornographic clichés – by photographers and individuals from all over the world. Emancipated and honest.” says SLANTED.

GoSee Loves : Woodcut Vibes by Roman Klonek, the book on natural mutation in the area of graphic reproduction, appearing at SLANTED PUBLISHERS

Roman Klonek, born 1969 in Kattowitz/Poland, is an illustrator and graphic artist. He is among the internationally known representatives of contemporary graphic reproduction in Germany. Roman Klonek’s family came to the Federal Republic from Poland in the 1970s. He grew up in Hanover and studied Visual Communication (majoring in graphic reproduction) from 1993 to 1999 at the University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf, followed by a scholarship for woodcut at the Art Academy Trier.

During his studies, he and his friends founded the artist group Tapezisten and launched the graphic fanzine Herrensahne, together with Tobi Dahmen and Leo Leowald, among others. Since graduating, Klonek has worked as a freelance graphic artist. From 2001 to 2008, Klonek was a co-organizer of Galerie Revolver in Düsseldorf. He regularly holds woodcut workshops in graphic colleges and has particpated in the Pictoplasma Festival for Character Design several times. In 2012, he was a guest professor at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz. Roman Klonek lives and works in Düsseldorf.

Roman Klonek produces around 20 woodcut motifs each year, printed by hand in editions of up to ten. Klonek’s woodcuts are displayed at exhibitions in Germany and increasingly internationally, most recently in Oslo, London and São Paulo. Klonek also creates commissioned illustrations for magazines and newspapers (WIRED, New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle) as well as for advertising clients.

SLANTED : “Roman Klonek, born in Kattowitz/Poland, has a knack for old-fashioned cartoons and modern block printing styles. In the 90s, he studied Graphic Arts in Dusseldorf and discovered a passion for woodcut. With this book, the Dusseldorf-based artist grants detailed insight into the working process and the background of his woodcut prints. The woodcut technique is particularly interesting as it is considered a “very old” medium for the most part, and therefore, often has a surprising effect, especially with contemporary motifs. Feel invited to follow the pages about a variety of whimsical characters, often half animal/half human in preferably curious surroundings and awkward situations. A bizarre balancing act between propaganda, folklore, and pop!”
