Visualize Your Own Aston Martin Beside the AMR23 at Silverstone with CGI.Backgrounds

Aston Martin Online Configurator by MHP

Aston Martin has long held a legendary place in the motorsport world. Although the company briefly competed in F1 in the late 1950s, Aston Martin was historically focused on sports car racing.

All that changed in 2021 when the Aston Martin F1 Team surged onto the scene from its new home base at the iconic Silverstone Circuit in the UK. Their AMR23 and the team's championship drivers have scored the team several podiums already.

The Racing Pedigree in Every Aston Martin

More importantly, though, Aston Martin has always had a reputation for infusing its racing pedigree into all its vehicles--even those that will never compete on a track--bringing that pedigree to every Aston Martin owner.

To celebrate those racing roots, Aston Martin and MHP partnered with CGI.Backgrounds to create an online configurator environment that allows current and potential owners to design their own Aston Martin, and instantly see it parked alongside the AMR23 in the team's garage at Silverstone.

Visitors can go to the new tool, and select their desired Aston Martin vehicle. They can then select from a variety of colors, accessories, interior options and more.

Once their car is perfectly configured, they can press a button to view the exact vehicle they've created, parked at Silverstone with the AMR23. They can even dynamically pan around the car, viewing it in 360 degrees and visualizing its interior.

They also have the option to contact Aston Martin and begin the process of purchasing the vehicle they've built.

Building the Tool
To build the tool, Aston Martin and MHP drew on CGI.Backgrounds' expertise in creating premium HDRi Maps and Backplates.

Specifically, the tool used a professionally produced HDRi Map and backplates made at the Aston Martin team's garage at Silverstone.

CGI.Backgrounds' team of professional photographers and 3D professionals worked with MHP to produce this custom HDRi Map on-location, on behalf of Aston Martin.

One of our advantages at CGI.Backgrounds is our deep knowledge of producing HDRi Maps, and our global reach. We have photographers and staff in the United States, Europe and Asia, so we're always ready to produce content anywhere it's needed.

The HDRi Maps and Backplates provide the backgrounds needed in order to realistically render both the 3D model of the user's custom-designed Aston Martin, and a model of the AMR23.

Our HDRi Maps allow the models to be dynamically lit and reconfigured in near-realtime, providing an engaging experience for Aston Martin's customers. The vehicle renders look photorealistic, despite being created in the user's web browser.

This new custom configurator is an innovative example of 3D marketing from an equally innovative partner.

Aston Martin has created some of the world's finest vehicles. Now, with CGI.Backgrounds' help, petrolheads worldwide can visualize those vehicles in an iconic setting--and perhaps even take their dream vehicle home.

You can visit the Aston Martin website to try out the new tool for yourself, or check out our video of the configurator in action.

‘Wild Ride’ - the new PORSCHE 911 Dakar with archive material from the year 1984, commercial by director CACHE BUNNY & HOCHKANT FILM for KEKO

What a ride, what a result! Together with director Cache Bunny, HOCHKANTFILM produced a captivating film for PORSCHE Middle East. The Porsche 911 Dakar is an homage to the winning car of the rally from 1984. The idea was to bring both worlds together in a video. To do so, archive material of René Metge, who won the Paris-Dakar rally in the years 1981, 1984 and 1986, were creatively combined with the new Porsche model.

Cache Bunny : “Porsche wanted to showcase their new 911 Dakar while paying homage to the car that inspired it – the 1984 Porsche 953. They gave me archive footage from 1984 and a chance to shoot whatever I wanted with the new 911 Dakar, so I decided to have the two cars racing side by side in different decades. I needed to direct 1984’s race winner, Rene Metge, to walk and fall for this transition, so we got an actor to be Rene’s body double, made a custom shirt to match the one he raced in, and brought in a crowd of people in 80s clothes to build a convincing remake of Rene’s winning moment.

In post, I added banners, extended the crowd, and had @drfakenstein deepfake Rene’s face onto our actor to match the archive footage as closely as possible. We worked with the amazing CGI team at Warm and Fuzzy to build 3D scenes of the 1984 race using the archive footage as a reference, and then track the scenes into our FPV clips.

I also wanted to include some of the archive still photos, but in a way that matched the high energy of our FPV footage. So I built a 3D collage in which every year had it’s own virtual set with photos from that year, a 3D model of that year’s car model, and 3D elements that represent each race. Animating the virtual camera was quite tedious… basically, the exact opposite of how FPV pilots work. What I needed was for Benoit to be able to fly our virtual camera in real time… and that’s exactly what we did!”

Felix Gahl directs the video 'Stay Unsaved' for CATNAPP – directed, edited, graded and produced by TREY

Wake up, give it up … – Catnapp, aka Amparo Battaglia, is an Argentinian producer and singer, who has been making somewhat unconventional music under the pseudonym since 2010. To do so, she combines elements from R&B, rap, breakbeat, pop and drum & bass.

For her music, she gladly moved from Argentina to Berlin. Because experimental artists like Catnapp who, also, don’t sing in the national language but in English, find it a lot more difficult to make a name for themselves in the highly competitive market of Argentina.

For her latest video ‘Stay Unsaved’ by director Felix GAHL c/o TREY, Hamburg-based post production company TREY was also responsible for grading, editing and production.

Following various singles and EPs which Catnapp released among other places on her own label Napp Records, her debut album ‘Break’ came out in 2019. Catnapp can be seen live at festivals and on stages for electronic music worldwide.
